150 Families Receive Christmas Trees

It was cold, but the Hornest's Nest Girl Scout Troop provided volunteers and families with hot chocolate and cookies.  Families received live Christmas trees complete with a tree stand, ornaments, and lights.  Dedicated volunteers and a ton of Christmas spirit helped to make this event a huge success.  We had 15 trees left over and Sherilla Horton loaded up her SUV and delivered them to Unisal, a local nonprofit dedicated to working with Latin American and immigrant communities in Charlotte.

A New TFEM Program: Dewey's Ladder

The Family Enrichment Movement  has partnered with an extraordinary woman named Kate Sloan to develop Dewey's Ladder. Dewey's Ladder was created in memory and honor of her beloved husband, Milton Dewey Sloan to assist families battling cancer with unexpectant and daily financial obligations. It is within your power to help these families to continue to "look up" in spite of their current circumstances.  Please DONATE TODAY by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. 100% of all donations received will go directly to support Dewey's Ladder.

300 School Supply Bags and much more!

The Family Enrichment Movement in partnership with Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church did it again!  We had our annual Back to School Carnival on August 16, 2014.  The event was a success!  We distributed 300 school supply bags!  We ran out of supplies within the first 45 minutes of the event.  Once the supplies were gone the fun still continued.  The carnival featured an ice cream truck, inflatable slide, soccer clinic, face painting, food, and raffles.  Our goal is to have the ability to provide all of the children that come to our carnival with school supplies.  The needs of local families are enormous and if you have the means to help provide supplies please seize the opportunity.  Investing in our youth is the only way we can insure the prosperity of our future.

Charlie's Lunchboxes Donated to Local Kids

The Family Enrichment Movement was contacted by an extraordinary young lady named Katie Downs about a program that would benefit local children as well as poverty stricken children around the world.  Katie works with a company called Initial Outfitters who has partnered with an organization named Charlie's Lunch. Charlie's lunch was inspired by a 5 year old little boy named Charlie Stewart.  Charlie found great joy in sharing his lunch with other children and dedicated his life to giving and sacrifice.  Charlie would accompany his father to Guatemala City to minister to the poor and would always return home with less than what he took with him on his journey.  Charlie gave unselfishly to needy children up until three weeks shy of his 13th birthday when he passed away due to heart complications.  Charlie's Lunch was created memorialize Charlie's giving spirit.  Charlie's lunch has feeding centers in 6 different countries and two US locations.

Initial Outfitters donates 100% of the proceeds from the sale of Charlie's Lunchbox to Charlie's Lunch to help fund its feeding centers.  Additionally, Initial Outfitters funds 17 lunchrooms and an orphanage.  Initial Outfitters encourages their employees to give these special lunchboxes to children in their local communities filled with needed supplies.  The Family Enrichment Movement and Katie determined that Thomasboro Academy would be an excellent recipient of Charlie's Lunchbox.  96% of the children that attend Thomasboro Academy qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The Family Enrichment Movement's founder personally delivered Charlie's Lunchboxes filled with needed supplies and encouraged the faculty and staff to look for information about our upcoming Back to School Carnival.  The Back to School Carnival is a free community event that takes place in August that provides local families with a day of fun, food, and school supplies.

70 Families Receive Live Christmas Trees

On December 8th, volunteers from The Family Enrichment Movement and Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church braved the brisk temperatures to deliver live Christmas trees to 70 local families. Christmas Tree Santas provided the trees and we helped to provide the deserving families with love and hope for this Christmas season.

230 School Supply Bags for local Charlotte Children

The Family Enrichment Movement and Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church partnered to provide 230 bags packed full of school supplies on Saturday, August 10th at the 2nd Annual Back to School Carnival.  This year's Carnival increased the number of school supplies given to local families by 150 percent! The Carnival featured a bounce house with a slide, an ice cream truck, games, raffles for free haircuts and hairstyles from local barbers and beauticians, face painting, school supplies, and food.  Best of all everything was free!  On behalf of both organizations, we would like to thank our dedicated volunteers for helping to make this event a success.
